7 Steps total
Step 1: 1
Connect a computer to one of the LAN (not WAN) Ethernet ports at the back of the router.
Step 2: 2
Setting a router as a wireless extender and repeater is old technology, and rarely used nowadays, yet it isn't outdated, or being phased out, as it's still being used. Typically, a range extender will connect via WiFi to the main SSID and repeat or create your own - only for Router to Extender. Note that once a router becomes an access point, it will lose router functions such as port forwarding and DHCP server. Note: If you are setting up a Nighthawk router in AP mode, see To configure your NETGEAR router as an AP. Connect a computer to the NETGEAR AP router and launch a web browser. If does not work, try the following. WGR614v9 — 54 Mbps Wireless Router / WGR614 v9 WGT624SC — Super G Wireless Router - Security Edition / WGT624SC WGT624v1 — 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router / WGT624 v1. In this video I will be showing you how to set up the Netgear Wi-Fi Extender. The extender is extremely quick to get up running and it is working like a charm! //The Silent Typer.

- SerranoMalcolm6953 Jul 9, 2013 at 08:31amMight be worth adding some comments on the following:a) not all devices use the 192.168.1.x subnet so might be worth making the instructions more generic.
b) checking the DHCP range that the existing router uses and making sure you haven't put your 'new' access point in the middle of the DHCP range. Might be better to put the 'new' access point at x.254 and ensure the existing DHCP scope end point is lower than this.
c) ensuring that the router you are using as the access point has its own DHCP service switched off. - Ghost ChiliNick42 Aug 14, 2013 at 11:58pmScreenshots would really make this pop. Several people have no idea that a wireless 'router' can be used like this. But if your network already has DHCP, it's not really needed on the AP.
